Derbyshire Constabulary - Neighbourhood Policing
Sixteen new PCSOs join local policing in Derbyshire Among our 16 new recruits are three familiar faces from our Force Control Room. They’re excited to get out on the beat, taking their strong communication and people skills into their new roles as PCSOs. They’re looking forward to seeing what happens beyond the call and being out and about in the community.
Joining them is a former postie who’s swapped her round for a police beat, along with colleagues from retail, hospitality, healthcare, and housekeeping. We’ve also welcomed recruits with experience from the armed forces, working in an Amazon warehouse, and construction – each bringing unique skills and perspectives.
Acting Sergeant Kavhita Sahota, who runs our PCSO training programme said: “I am so proud of this group, from walking in on day one as members of the public, they’ve built the myriad of strong skills that a PCSO needs to know. “PCSOs are the bedrock of community policing, they take the time to get to know their area and the people within it, and when issues arise that knowledge from our PCSOs is invaluable.”
The group has had eight weeks of training, during which they’ve built decision making and communication skills, an ability to solve complex problems and deescalate difficult situations, as well as technical knowledge and physical skills in our personal public safety training. Last week, our new PCSOs celebrated finishing training school and received their hard-earned certificates in front of friends and family. They will now be heading to local teams across the county to work with a tutor as part of their on the job training.
